-dependant, dependent-

Nota d'uso
Con il sostantivo dependants (in inglese americano dependents) si indicano coloro che dipendono economicamente da qualcuno, ad esempio i figli o il coniuge “a carico”, e non i dipendenti di un'azienda (che sono employees, staff o personnel): In the event of your death, your dependants will be looked after, se tu dovessi morire, i tuoi figli verranno accuditi. Allo stesso modo, l'espressione to be dependent on significa avere bisogno di qualcuno o qualcosa per sopravvivere o funzionare: they are increasingly dependent on our support, sono sempre più dipendenti dal nostro sostegno; China is dependent on overseas trade, la Cina dipende dal commercio internazionale.
